PAKPATTAN -
The celebrations of 770th Urs of leading saint of Silsila
Chishtiya Hazrat Baba Fareeduddin Ganj-e-Shakar (RA) reached its zenith
with the opening of Behishti Darwaza amid elaborated security here on
Tuesday evening. The opening ceremony of Behishti Darwaza was performed
by Sajjada Nasheen of the shrine Dew
an
Maadood Masood Chishti with loud slogans of “Ya Fareed Haq Fareed.” On
the occasion, a marvellous fireworks display coincided with the
announcement that Behishti Darwaza has been opened for the devotees of
the great saint, who have come from across the globe. The devotees from
Pakistan and other countries have started arriving in the city since
Zilhaj 25, and will be staying here till the afternoon of 10th of
Muharram, which will be the last day of the Urs when bathing ceremony of
the mazaars will be performed by the Dewans. The Dewan, accompanied by
his male family members, performed other rituals, including distribution
of paechaas (saffron-coloured thread strips dipped in real saffron).
Despite security threats and chill weather, thousands of people gathered
near the Darbar and around the city, while more than a 100,000 crossed
the Behishti Darwaza on the first day. The Darwaza will remain open till
9th of Muharram, and it is believed that over half a million people
will go through the Darwaza, which is opened for five days in a year
only during 15-day Urs celebrations. Prominent personalities, who
crossed the Behishti Darwaaza on the first day, included Dewan Azmat
Said Muhammad Chishti, Khawaja Nasrul Mehmood, Syed Tahir Nizami from
India, Syed Bilal Chishti from India, Haji Abdul Rauf, MNAs and MPAs of
the area. Although strict security measures have been adopted for the
occasion, lapses can still be seen around which should plugged to avert
any contingency on the auspicious eve. It is to be noted that people
from all schools of thought equally respect the great sufi saint and
take pride in paying visit to his shrine for spiritual blessings..
